Responding to Charges of Employment Discrimination

This online course is designed primarily for employer representatives who have direct responsibility for investigating and responding to discrimination charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

The skill-building course focuses on techniques and strategies for dealing with discrimination charges, from the moment an employer receives notice that a charge has been filed with the EEOC, through the final resolution or referral of the case to litigation. The course includes segments on conducting an internal investigation, the use of mediation in resolving both formal and informal charges and on preparing an effective position statement. Using self-paced online modules, Web Workshops, and online discussion forums, the course aims to increase the skills of employer representatives at each stage of the EEO charge process.

An experienced EEAC facilitator moderates the course, which allows participants to work at their own pace for segments of the course. The moderator and participants meet via Web Workshops at designated times throughout the course to review core ideas, discuss additional information, and participate in activities to reinforce key skills. An orientation workshop at the start of the course introduces participants to the learning platform, addresses how to use it, establishes a timeline for completion of modules and activities, and encourages participants to collaborate with one another.

Participants must have a desktop or laptop computer with Internet access in order to access material from EEAC’s learning management system and WebEx during the course.

EEAC courses have met the HR Certification Institute’s criteria to be pre-approved for recertification credit. EEAC also is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits for SHRM-CPSM or SHRM-SCPSM.
